Elbert County is on the western edge of Centennial’s region. It is bordered on the west by Douglas, the north by Arapahoe and the south by El Paso County. During the 1990’s Elbert was the second fastest growing county in Colorado (after Douglas) and it continues to grow at a rapid pace. It currently has over 20,000 residents, mostly living on two to 60-acre lots on the western side. Most residents commute to Denver or Colorado Springs for work. The eastern side of the county continues to be sparsely populated ranchland.
Centennial has an office in the town of Elizabeth, a community of about 1,500 people surrounded by Ponderosa pine forest. It is the highest in elevation of any of Centennial’s offices, at 6448 feet, on Monument Ridge that stretches into the county from the Rocky Mountains. The area is home to an eclectic mix of horse breeders, alternative healthcare providers and professionals in high tech industries. Elizabeth is just 15 miles east of Castle Rock (and I-25).
Seven miles east of Elizabeth is the small town of Kiowa (about 500 residents) which is the county seat. Centennial also provides services one day per week in Simla, on the southeastern corner of the county.
