I started working at CMHC in 1989 with the CSP program, working with severely and persistently mentally ill adults. When I first started I was doing primarily case management. I am now involved in 6 skills training or therapy groups per week and do some individual therapy also.

I am on the QI team and have been involved with the cultural etiquette team. I am also on the emergency services rotation and generally am on call for emergencies about 3 or 4 days a month.

I have been through the QMAP training for medication management. I continue to provide case management services to my clients as well and assist them with accessing resources in the community, managing benefits, dealing with medication issues, and getting through crisis situations.

Areas of expertise include these populations:  Children, Adolescents, and Family.

Treatment expertise includes:  Individual, Group, Family, and Play Therapy.

Issues of expertise include: Grief and Loss, Behavioral Disorders, Anger Management, Emergency Services, Sexual Abuse Victims, Domestic Violence Families, and ADHD.

I have over 10 years experience working with at risk children. I started as a day care teacher, and in 1995 I accepted a job with DHS. There I supervised parenting time for children who were in foster care. I worked my way up to "Parenting Time Specialist" with the EPP Program. I taught parenting skills to parents and how to interact with their children. In 2000 I had my daughter and decided to stay home with her until she started school. Once she was in school full time I accepted a position with CMHC, as a mentor.

I enjoy working with children and their families. I have seen many of the children in the mentor program grow and work towards reaching their true potential. We do lots of fun things in the mentor program while working on social skills, anger management, and other issues that may arise. I also like to work with the family and teach them new ways to relate to each other. I hope to be a part of the mentor program at CMHC for a long time, being a positive role model to our children.

Began with CMHC 9-86 as part-time driver. Started 9-87 as leader for Adult Living Skills Groups and Case Management. I have always worked part-time (20 hours/week or more when needed for shortage in staff.) I am now (since 10-06) trying to work 15-10 hours/week, but still do cover for other staff when needed. I have worn many varied hats in the past 20 years, including cleaning, organizing for parties and other activities, some maintenance, driving clients, etc.

For most of my life I have known that I wanted to help people. Growing up in a home with a mother that was visually impaired was my beginning, and her being actively working with many organizations that helped benefit people with disabilities. I started picking up American Sign Language at about the age of 10, because I could talk to a person who was blind or a person in a wheel chair., but I had no way to talk with a deaf person. So I learned my ABCs and from there became fluent by my senior year in high school thanks to all of my deaf friends that I went to school with.

Later on I became interested in doing EMT work while living in Salt Lake City, UT. As I worked on a ambulance part time and did security part time to help pay for some college classes. It just didn’t seem like a good fit. Then for the next few years after I worked in a Psych & Substance Treatment Hospital as the Safety and Security Manager, again I liked the work but it just didn’t seem like a good fit.

After I left the Hospital I knew I still wanted to be in the medical field but not doing so much poking with needles, just sitting around to talk to people, I wanted something more worthwhile then a friend told me I should be doing massage.

So a year later I was enrolled to take my first massage classes in 1998, 10 months later I graduated with my Colorado Certificate for massage. Another year later I had National Certification and was very interested in learning more about Bodymind, emotional, and Traditional Chinese Medicine so I took more classes.

So to date with my areas of BodyMind Connection, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Taoist Meditation, and 14 different touch and massage modalities to choose from to help me better heal and understand a person, along with Aromatherapy and my Qi Gong mastery. I am getting back into mental health working as a case manager for the CSP Program at Rainbow house, introducing Breathing, meditation, and Acupressure for emotional nutrition and looking at furthering my education in Somatic Psych Bodymind therapy.

Additional Languages; Japanese

I grew up in rural Colorado and have lived here all but 4 years of my life. I have lived in Japan for 2 years and for 2 years in Washington State. I like to design things and improve on good ideas. I like to develop solutions to problems. I consider myself an inventor.

I went to CSU for an undergraduate degree in Industrial Technology Management. I have represented Hewlett Packard nationwide in major retail computer stores. I have designed and now manufacture a Quantitative Electroencephalograph, QEEG, for the use of recording brain waves. Neurologists, Neuropsychologists, Psychologists, Physiatrists, and Doctors around the world buy my equipment to assist them in their practices and research. In order to use my own equipment I needed to go back to school and get a degree in counseling.

I do not consider myself to be an expert on any mental health issues. I do however have a strong interest and a workable approach with the majority of the conditions. I want to work with children to adult clients, individually or as a family or in groups. I want to specialize in working with children before they become adults and in Neurotherapy to deal with all manners of mental health issues.

Currently I am working part time in the CSP program at CMHC’s Rainbow House and part time completing my internship hours for my masters program in community counseling.
