Reports to: Board of Directors

Type: Exempt 

Position Summary: Responsible for carrying out the Center’s mission, as set by the Board of Directors, with overall accountability for the Center’s clinical, financial and administrative activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

General Management of Centennial Mental Health Center

1. The Director assumes executive responsibility as directed by the Board, executing and implementing policies, procedures and actions of the Board and ensuring the accomplishment of the Center’s mission.

2. Facilitates the development, implementation and administration of all services of the Center in accordance with the stated purpose of the Board of Directors and within the policies formulated by the Board.

3. Insures that the Center develops, delivers and maintains comprehensive, high-quality services.

Fiscal Development and Management

1. Manages financial matters according to the Board-approved budget, assuring a sound fiscal base for on going Center operations.

2. Diversifies funding sources by writing grant proposals, designing fund raising activities and negotiating with various funding agencies.

3. Develops and submits for Board review and approval appropriate and timely plans and budgets.

Personnel Management

1. Directs all of the Center’s programs and operations; supervises all staff either directly or through subordinate managers; reviews and approves the hire and discharge of all employees in accordance with established Board policies.

2. Delegates responsibility to appropriate staff in order to carry out the day-to-day activities of the Center.

3. Provides for a staff development program, which insures adequate skill development for all personnel.

4. Maintains an open and positive work environment for employees and provides open communication with all staff.

Community Relations

1. Maintains positive working relationships with public and private agencies, legislators, funding sources and keeps a positive agency image.

2. Remains knowledgeable concerning federal, state and local policies, programs, legislation and regulations affecting the operation and funding of the Center.

3. Maintains close liaison with officials of institutions with which the Center contracts and with which it has cooperative arrangements for the performance of mental health or related functions.

4. Performs public relations functions related to explanation and enhancement of the Center’s programs; represents the Center to a variety of publics on a state and local level.

Board of Directors

1. Assumes executive responsibility as directed by the Board, executing and implementing policies, procedures and actions of the Board.

2. Provides accurate and timely information to the Board.

3. Serves the Board in an advisory capacity, keeping it updated on changing needs or elements that will affect the operations of the Center.

Other

1. Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Board of Directors.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Center-wide staff either directly or through subordinate managers.

Job Requirements:

Education: Masters or doctoral degree in Psychiatric Nursing, Social Work or Psychology, or Board-eligible Psychiatrist.

Certificates, Licenses, Registration: Must be licensed or eligible for licensure in the State of Colorado.

Experience: Minimum of five (5) years’ clinical experience, preferably in a Community Mental Health Center; minimum of five (5) years’ experience of a progressively more responsible nature, in mental health administration; administrative experience in a Community Mental Health Center preferred, but not required.

Abilities, Knowledge, Skills: Applicant must be in good mental and physical health and be willing to submit a medical report if requested. Must be assertive, skilled in public speaking and fund-raising. Must be able to work effectively in a political environment and successfully collaborate with coalitions and interest groups that advocate for community mental health. Ability to travel within the Center's service area or to other locations as needed.
