Reports to: Executive Director Type: Exempt Position Summary: Monitors Center services to assure adherence to Center standards for clinical practice as specified in the Center’s Quality Improvement Plan and is directly responsible for all of the Center’s medical services. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Administration 1. Participates in recruitment/hiring of medical personnel. 2. Collaborates with County Directors and Program Coordinators to evaluate the performance of medical personnel. 3. Advises Executive Director regarding medical personnel staffing levels. 4. Is identified as Medical Director on all Center insurance and Medicaid billing as well as billing to other third party payers with similar requirements. Clinical 1. Links the Center and the medical community by screening consumers for medical conditions that might need to be examined and treated by the primary care physician. 2. Evaluates consumers directly when diagnostic issues require resolution, or when the potential need for psychotropic medication is discovered during the evaluation process. 3. Monitors consumer response to and side effects of prescribed psychotropic medications. 4. Participates on treatment/evaluation clinical teams, providing consultation, clinical supervision and training to clinical staff. 5. Formulates program recommendations to the Executive Director. 6. Serves as consultant on the Center’s Quality Improvement Committee in the development of QI policies and procedures. 7. Provides consultation to emergency on-call staff as needed and as available. 8. Advises the Executive Director regarding professional staff development priorities and policies and procedures governing clinical staff supervision. Other 1. Performs other duties as assigned. Job Requirements: Education: M.D. or D.O. from approved (Class A) Medical School and completion of a three-year residency in psychiatry required. Certificates, Licenses, Registration: The Medical Director shall be certified within one year of employment by the American Board of Psychiatry in Neurology and Psychiatry. Experience: Priority will be given to previous experience in a community mental health center. Abilities, Knowledge, Skills: Extensive knowledge and skills in the use of medications used in the treatment of mental illness. Knowledge of methods of psychotherapy. Ability to serve wide range of consumers, including culturally diverse populations. Knowledge of cultural issues that may have a bearing on service provision. Knowledge of community resources. Ability to assess crisis situations and intervene appropriately. Familiar with the DSM-IV and diagnostic techniques. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Computer literacy to include basic skills in e-mail communication and word processing. Ability to work flexible and on-call hours, which may be required. Ability to travel within the Center's service area or to other locations as needed. |
