Reports to: Office Coordinator Type: Non-Exempt Position Summary: Responsible for low level maintenance of the Local Area network (LAN) and computer equipment including resetting servers/workstations and checking cables and connections. Also serves as the local help desk representative, which includes assisting the business office in tracking local computer equipment and software and ensuring that the office meets Center standards (licensing, functionality, etc). The position may include data input into word processing, database, and reporting software. Performs under minimal supervision and guidance. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Completes physical inventory checks (including checking serial numbers, verifying location, and determining users) and inspects computers for non-standard software as requested.2. Remains current on using various Center computer programs. These programs include virus detection, compression/decompression, and information system interfaces.3. Responsible for ensuring that periodic backup of critical data is accomplished according to procedures and that the tapes or disks are stored in a secure location.4. Maintains sufficient knowledge in computer operation, components, and software to identify when repair or replacement is required. Resolves minor problems reporting the problem and resolution to the business office. Reports detailed information on major or potential problems to the business office for further instructions.5. Follows written procedures to keep the LAN running efficiently. This includes monitoring resources to identify potential overload conditions, installing new workstations on the LAN, resetting LAN components (hubs, workstations, servers, etc), configuring file server shared drives on workstations, and providing support to users on the use of LAN resources.6. Provides user training on center programs including word processors, spreadsheet tools, email software, and others. Training is provided mainly as the technician performs the local "help desk" function providing support to inexperienced users. Problems the technician is unable to resolve are elevated to the business office help line.7. Creates statistical reports and special projects as required.8. Assists with billing routines.9. Performs data entry as required.10. Performs other job duties as assigned.Job Requirements: Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. Experience: Experience using Microsoft products is required including use of keyboard, mouse, and standard Microsoft menu systems. Abilities, Knowledge, Skills: Demonstrated knowledge of computer processing. Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency in the use of software programs, including email, word-processing, database and report writers. Some knowledge of accounting and billing practices. |
