POSITION SUMMARY
Serves as medical support to staff and psychiatrists, coordinating care and monitoring consumer medications.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Administers medications and evaluates and monitors consumers for medication side effects.
- Provides consumers with up-to-date information regarding medications and their side effects.
- Coordinates medical care and interventions with staff and psychiatrists.
- Provides consultation to staff regarding medical issues.
- Provides medical screening assessment to consumers as needed.
- Provides clinical assessment, problem identification, crisis interventions, individual and group therapy.
- Develops and monitors treatment plans, monitors treatment progress and documents significant interactions.
- Holds appropriate sessions in group settings to work on a skill building issues.
- Maintains accurate and timely clinical records consistent with Center standards.
- Participates in meetings, in-services and supervisory session as required.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
High school diploma, with courses in science. Bachelor’s degree and certification as Medical Assistant preferred.
EXPERIENCE
Minimum one year experience with the chronically mentally ill preferred
ABILITIES, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS
Knowledge of psychotropic medications. Basic knowledge of the principles of psychology and social work as they apply to the chronically mentally ill. Ability to serve wide range of consumers, including culturally diverse populations. Knowledge of cultural issues that may have a bearing on service provision. Ability to work on-call hours which may be required. Effective written and verbal communication skill. Computer literacy to include basic skills in e-mail communication and word processing. Ability to travel within the Center's service area or to other locations as needed.
